Burning Brighter Than the Rest of the Stars

October 25, 2009

Welcome the Learn Skill Sets blog for [e]volutionaries, entrepreneuers and business managers.

“Burning Brighter Than the Rest of the Stars©” is all about getting ahead, being better then your peers and the people you compete with in your job or business. The subject should be of interest to anyone who wants to stand out and grow personally and professionally. Burning brighter than the rest of the stars is a modern day metaphor and a fresh new look at generating great ideas and the creativity skill sets need to perform at a high level of competence.

Ideas are an excellent core strategy that will serve as the catalyst for ensuring your future employment or business successes. Great ideas skill sets are the key to setting you apart from the pack. “Good thinkers are always in demand. An individual who knows how may always have a job, but a person who knows why, will always be his boss.” -John Maxwell

Whether we like it or not, we all live in a galaxy of stars. These stars represent your peers, your subordinates, your teammates, even your boss and his boss if he has one. All of us compete in our own unique ways in some form and fashion while trying to stand out or get ahead in the personal galaxies we live in.

A person’s galaxy exists in a couple of different universes. Your universe includes your job, the company in general, social clubs as well as other professional activities and social networks. Your galaxy could also include your business.
5How does one pull themselves out of the pile of existing talents, stars, fast trackers and wannabe’s that reside in your own personal galaxies? What is at the core and the catalyst behind stars that burn brighter?

Here’s how Jack Welch responded to what could be described in his book as truly a career defining question; how do sepearte yourself and get out of the pile?
“Ninety-nine point nine percent of all employees are in the pile because they don’t think”. 1st thing that you must understand is the importance of getting out of “the pile”. The hero is the one with ideas.” -Jack Welch
Truth be told, companies aren’t willing to pay for mediocrity. Would you? If you were a business owner or high level executive, you wouldn’t pay top dollar for the middle of the pile, when you can pay top dollar for the top of the pack? This is is why you should never be happy being in the pile!!!

Why are some people successful in their jobs, at work or in business, while others aren’t? People with great idea skill sets find better careers and opportunities, that’s a fact. Education or lack of one does not separate great thinkers with great ideas from the mediocre thinkers and ideas. Neither does being smart or not smart. Great thinkers use different skill sets and just think differently than unsuccessful people and that shows in the level of the ideas they can produce.

“The battle for control and leadership of the world has always been waged most effectively at the idea level.” -The American Covenenant

If battle for control and leadership of the world is waged at the idea level, doesn’t it make sense that ideas in business is the single most effective strategy that makes you shine brighter that the other stars? Companies pay for great ideas. Great thinkers are excellent problem solvers and they always provide ideas that help build an organization. These skills aren’t taught through our school systems so it’s not a matter of saying I don’t have a higher education, or a degree that lets me compete on an even playing field with other peoples great ideas.

The art of generating great ideas and great thinking skill ets are specific strategies, tools and core competencies. But these skill sets do not stand alone to make you effective. Creativity skill sets drives the engine of great ideas and great thinkers.

The essence of creativity is much broader than the skill sets it actually encompasses, which is why some people don’t see themselves as the creative type, even after they learn all about the art of creativity. It’s another reason why people who think they aren’t creative say they can seldom come up with a good idea, let alone a great idea. The threads of great thinking, great ideas and creativity work synergistically.

At the core of being creative and generating great ideas and great thinking are both high level thinking skill sets and critical problem solving skill sets. You can’t be very creative without these skills. Collectively they broaden the Body of Knowledge (BOK) that makes up creativity, as well as enhancing the tools and skill sets that in the final analysis, turns out great ideas.

The best news about the art of creativity is that great thinking for great ideas are skill sets everyone can learn and you become very effective using these tools, strategies and resources everyday.

In the final analysis, learn the skill sets associated with creativity and great thinking for generating great ideas and you will no longer be a dim light on the horizon, but a glimmering beacon. Most important of all, you will be able to separate yourself from the pack and become the shining star in your own galaxies.
